Before launching of a channel IBN Lokmat, they (Rajdeep and Nikhil) used to say, "Aamah marg vegala aahe" i.e. our path is different. we are representing masses not only classes, we know where you can get REAL news, we are interested in people, who in reality are the kingmakers and so on... in the pre-launch commercials of their channel. Certainly, these statements were promising and giving lot of assurances to the common man like me.
I was pondering, will they keep their promises? are these statements only part of their add campaign? Though, I assume they really want to do some breakthrough in media (looking at Nikhil’s history and his popularity as Journalist of his own kind), will the people around him, the system in which we are, allow him to do so? Will the hippocratic politicians, corrupt ‘Babu’s allow him to do what he wants to? (remember few years ago, his newspaper office was destroyed by Shivsainiks)
The people who are now habituated to see, Amitabh Bachchan ko thandi lagi (Amitabh Bachchan is feeling cold) as a breaking news will get set to see ‘real’ news. So called middle class living in metros will take interest in half an hour long discussion on agrarian crisis. After these positive experiments which are absolutely required, will IBN Lokmat get a commercial success like any other news channel? Will financial stake holders of IBN Lokmat give freedom to Nikhil and others to represent true news analysis of each and every news? There were so many questions in my mind. I think after Nikhil and Rajdeep I am the only one who was extremely worried about the success of the channel :).
Looking at the reputation gain by the channel in last two months, most of my questions got answered.

Media people always give an excuse, we give what people want and by doing so we are not doing anything wrong, but by saying so they forget their role as a forth pillar of the society. Media exists not only for mass communication or for information dissemination but also for signaling alarming situations of the society. That is what IBN Lokmat is doing.
Now you must be thinking why I am writing passionately about IBN Lokmat. Am I getting any benefits either monitory or in any other terms? But I think we should promote and encourage such extraordinary efforts leading to betterment of the society.
At least I am a self-appointed brand ambassador for all such efforts.... what about you?
